Our Tribute
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of our long time tutor in October 2008.
Roy was passionate about his work with 'build' and gave far more than required by normal employment terms. His joy at seeing the progress of his students was obvious to everyone. His skill in dealing with students who had difficulties adapting to the work, or who were not concentrating on what they were doing, was remarkable.
He was a first class carpenter and joiner and he used all of his experience, skill and personal touch to make sure that those in his charge learnt as much as possible about the craft and about life. He had a story for every occasion from his own experience and still a thirst for knowledge in his 70s.
His students were extremely fond of him even though he sometimes called them all the names under the sun!
One said of him: "He never gives up, even if we are acting like **!@**s, he keeps us at it until we've learnt it properly".
This formula paid off as his students usually did very well in their assessments, but most importantly in gaining employment and a career.
He was a great colleague and we miss his great sense of humour, easy manner, his conversation and charm as well as his work. Thank-you Roy.
