Council Leader praises 'build' trainees

The 'build' Academy at Lockwood hosted a special celebration event on Monday 26th October where the Leader of Kirklees Council, Cllr Mehboob Khan, presented two groups of successful trainees with their certificates.

Seven trainees from the Pathway into Landscaping programme have worked with Kirklees staff at various parks, gardens and sports grounds across the district and have been helped towards achieving Level 1 NVQ accredited by Bishop Burton College.

Six further trainees have been on 'build's Trainee Assessor programme which has given the previously unemployeds people the opportunity to become trained construction industry assessors.

Also attending the ceremony was Cllr Molly Walton who is a member of the Friends of Beaumont Park - a partner in the landcaping scheme.

Cllr. Khan said: " It is a real honour to be asked to present the awards to the trainees.  'build' provides a very important funtion in Kirklees by offering unemployed people training opportunities and work experience.  This event is a celebration of the trainees' achievement but also an opportunity to acknowledge the hard work that 'build' and its partners do."
